About
Michaela Allen is an award winning international musician, composer and educator.
Originally from the U.K, she was largely self-taught throughout her childhood, before studying classical piano performance at Leeds Conservatoire, U.K. (BA) and Colorado State University, U.S. (MM). Notable engagements during this time included performances for Leeds International Piano Festival and The Turner Prize. Additionally, she received awards for academic achievement at both institutions.
Stylistically, Michaela interpolates traditional technique with modern influence; she performs a mixture of improvised solo acoustic and hybrid electronic shows. As a classically trained pianist who discovered music production and composition post university, she offers a broad variety of session work. This includes accompaniment for soloists and mixed ensembles, and artist collaboration (co-writing and production). At present, her main classical project is a piano duo with Mindi Morse, which won first place at the U.S. International Duo Piano Competition and gave its debut public concert in 2026.
Michaela is a private educator at her studio, MJA Music. She teaches piano, music theory, and composition. Devoted to the development of education, she keeps connected with the local education community; she serves as Vice President of Communications and Student Musicales for Denver Area Music Teachers Association (DAMTA), judges local competitions, and spends much time researching music.
